The Club Wolverine website has been completely overhauled. Sorry if I’m really slow with this news.
I understand that the previous site predominantly featured Phelps in the header graphic, but did the entire site have to be scrapped? It now runs on the generic (read: zzzzzz) teamunify.com template system.
*sigh*
I don’t like it. at. all. Then again, I’m a web designer, so I’m a tad more critical than most when it comes to websites.

As you all know, Mike hosted the season premiere of Saturday Night Live last night. There is video from his episode available on the official show website.
Additionally, if you’ve been watching the Browns/Steelers NFL game on NBC tonight, you’ve also seen Mike get a great deal of facetime as he is in attendance (in Cleveland) supporting Braylon Edwards, whom he trained with a little back in the spring.

The official Michigan schedule for the 2008-09 season still isn’t out, but that hasn’t stopped me from scouring the web for dual meets.
And I’ve found another one! The Wolverine men will travel a short distance to Ypsilanti to take on Eastern Michigan on October 22 (6PM).
You can see all the dates I’ve found thus far on the schedule page.

Mike was on the Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno last night. He’s been on quite a few times since 2004. I don’t know about y’all, but it was refreshing that Jay didn’t ask the same tired questions he asked Mike the last 2 times he was on the show. Y’all know what I mean! “You live by yourself now? Tell me about it.” “You ate cereal out of water bottle? No way!” zzzzzzzzz
Anyway, watch the video below. I didn’t put it on YouTube because there’s a 10 minute limit on video uploads and this video is 11+. Enjoy!

Fourteen-time Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps today announced the establishment of the Michael Phelps Foundation and made his first donation by committing the well-publicized $1 million bonus he will receive from Speedo® for winning eight gold medals in Beijing.
The Foundation’s first initiative will be an eight-city tour across the United States, in collaboration with long-time partner Speedo (www.speedousa.com), to visit children and share his experiences in Beijing. The Tour will also serve as the launch of an education program, Dream, Plan, Reach, based on a simple yet powerful set of principles that Michael learned as a child and has applied to his everyday life. The Program will provide children with an understandable game plan for life that can extend beyond the swimming pool, to empower children to live healthy, active lives. Dream, Plan, Reach focuses on informed planning and goal-setting, and the importance of personal responsibility and discipline in adhering to that plan in day-to-day living.
“Thanks to a lot of hard work, some good fortune, the inspiration I drew from so many supporters around the world, and incredible teammates, I was able to achieve that dream by winning eight Gold Medals in Beijing,” said Phelps. “Now, my goals reach beyond the pool, to helping others realize their dreams, and continuing to grow the sport I love so much. I feel it’s only appropriate that I continue the momentum that Speedo helped to create, by committing my bonus to the establishment of the Michael Phelps Foundation, which I hope will help me inspire others to achieve their dreams, and give back to the sport that has given me so much.”

Because aint no party like a VK party, cuz the VK party don’t stop. Or so I’ve been told.
Last night, AVK and PVK hosted a soiree in Miami at hotspot B.E.D. The event was officially titled “The Red, White, and Gold Water Bash”, and this was how you could get in:
$50 donation to USA Swimming Foundation; $300 for gift bag and meet-and-greet with the Vanderkaays; $1,000 for dinner with them. B.E.D.
$1000 for dinner with them? I can’t imagine paying that much to have dinner with anyone, let alone people I already know! In fact, next time I meet up with Mama VK, she’s buying me dinner. I wonder if this means we can go someplace fancy? Just kidding!
Hope the crew had a great time in The Magic City! Who am I kidding? Of course they had fun!
P.S. I’ve already rocked my PVK USA shirt once. Gotta represent, right?

The Michael Phelps Media Tour will continue in Chicago next week as MP, and other US Olympians, will stop by Oprah for the filming of her season premiere.
Oprah will tape the episode, which will air Sept. 8, at Millennium Park as her way to welcome home our Olympians.
More info the Oprah Winfrey Show can be found at www.oprah.com/tows. Check your local listings for when it airs in your market.
So far, the only other swim Olympian confirmed to be attend is Dara Torres. The show is expecting a total of 150 athletes, so here’s to hoping there will be some other swimmers on the show!

Phelpsi has been tapped to kick off the new season of NBC’s late night sketch comedy program Saturday Night Live (SNL). He will host the September 13th season premiere, which airs at 11:30 PM (ET) on Saturdays.
The nod is a double dose of excitement for Mike as one of his favorite rapper, Lil Wayne, is that week’s music guest. Anyone want to make a bet that Lochte shows up too?
Reviews have been rather hit or miss when athletes host SNL. The best one I’ve seen was LeBron James’. The only “acting” we’ve seen out of MP have been some of his commercials. So here’s to a respectable SNL outing that makes us laugh and not because he’s that bad!
More on SNL can be found on the show’s website. Represent!
ETA: The “Tonight Show” appearance is tentatively set for September 8.
